Prep
- Preheat oven to 350F and grease a 9x5 loaf pan.
- Make streusel by cutting cold butter into flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon until crumbly, then refrigerate.
Mix batter
- Whisk all-purpose flour, baking soda, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl.
- Whisk pumpkin puree, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and sour cream until smooth.
- Fold dry ingredients into wet just until combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Fold in 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips.
Assemble and bake
- Pour batter into the greased loaf pan.
- Scatter the remaining semi-sweet chocolate chips over the top.
- Cover generously with the chilled streusel topping.
- Bake 60-65 minutes at 350F until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Tent with foil after 35 minutes if the streusel is browning too fast.
Notes
For the best crumb and streusel texture, keep the butter cold and refrigerate the streusel before topping the loaf. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate up to 5 days; freeze slices up to 2 months. For a slightly lighter option, swap half the vegetable oil for unsweetened applesauce while keeping the bake time the same.
